No argument, breast cancer is one of the most dreadful diseases that victimize women. In terms of cancer death rate, after lung cancer, it is the number one leading cause of cancer related deaths among American women. Approximately 12% or 1 in 8 women in the US will face breast cancer throughout their lifetime.
This year, around 232,670 new cases of intrusive breast cancer are predicted. The American Cancer Society reports that as many as 40,000 women are forecast to die due to this fatal illness. On the other hand, the survival rate is quite high. The overall chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman’s death is approximately 3%. Statistics report that there are over 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States.
One of the contributing factors of this elevated survival rate is attributed to the early diagnosis and treatment – mostly afforded by the promotion of breast self-examination (BSE). BSE is a step-by-step screening process done by a woman herself to examine each breast for possible lumps, deformations or swelling. This procedure is free, non-intrusive, and advocated by medical experts worldwide.
All in all, breast cancer awareness is vital in helping increasing survival rates. We, at SEO National, will also do our part in supporting this life-saving awareness campaign.
